What is your role in Cryptopia?

I’m the community manager for Cryptopia. I keep the community engaged and hyped up by creating activities for them while waiting for the big launch. Also, my job is to make sure that people understand and play the game. I also handle our Twitter spaces and do events for Cryptopia. And if there's any community feedback coming from them, I'll make sure to relay that to the dev team.

Do you have an idea when it's going to launch?

As of right now, we're targeting the end of this year. It’s very tentative, but that is our goal.

Tell us a little about your background.

Alright, so, right after high school, you know, I was kinda forced to fend for myself because I was kicked out of my house at the age of 18 and forced to live on my own. I took my brother with me and I was very, very fortunate that when I was a kid, I watched a lot of cartoons and I developed this ability to speak English. Fortunately, during that time in 2007, the call center industry was booming. So at the age of 18, I applied to be a call center agent in Alabang. That changed my life. It gave me that life lesson that, you know, things are not gonna go in your way most of the time, that you have to work for things that you like. So that kicked the spoiled brat in me and allowed me to mature. The call center job lasted for 12 years and then I decided, hey, I'm not going anywhere here. I then made the transition to work from home. I spent a little time in customer service. And then I found the opportunity to become the COO of a company that I worked for in the past—a Women's Health company. I really learned a lot from my client at that time, which allowed me ultimately to apply for this role for Cryptopia.

How did you join the Cryptopia team?

That is a very funny story. During the pandemic, a lot of work-from-home associates also lost their jobs, and I was one of them. And so I'm out of a job. So what I did was apply to every freaking job on Facebook and LinkedIn—everything. It was a shotgun approach and I didn't even remember applying for Cryptopia at all. But the Cryptopia team reached out to me and I thought, hey, this is a gaming company, an NFT crypto thing. And personally, I didn’t know anything about crypto, so it was kind of weird, but I still went ahead because I was confident with my skillset and experience. And yeah, fortunately, it worked out and here we are.

Still on personal stuff, if there is one particular food that you could eat every day, what would that be?

That would be fried chicken. Yeah, definitely. Back in the day, when I was in that situation where I wasn't really doing good, there was a fried chicken stand near me where they sold chicken necks for cheap. The nostalgia of eating fried chicken brings me back to the days. It reminds me everytime that I should value the things that I have.

You also mentioned that you watched hours of cartoons. What was your favorite that you learned English from?

When I was young, Cartoon Network was a thing, right? Yeah. So I watched a lot of Dexter's Laboratory.

Moving on to Cryptopia itself, could you describe it in a nutshell? Say for a new player.

Cryptopia is a tycoon-driven resource management multi-player role-playing game. Those are a lot of words, right? It's meant to let you manage resources, and optimize how you're gonna build the economy based on your character stats. There are a lot of different paths you can take, but ultimately it leads to owning property in Cryptopia and starting a business or career.

If you are a new citizen in Cryptopia, what's the first thing that you would do?

The first thing that I would do when a land in Cryptopia is to look for a job. Then I would start growing my skillset and then applying for a bigger role, and once I have saved up some TOS, I'll buy my own land and start my own business so I can self-sustain.

Do you prefer the Tycoon path or the Adventurer path?

Good question. I want to start out as an Adventurer first and then work my way up to being a Tycoon, because I don't believe in taking shortcuts. I believe the long road teaches you each step to owning an actual business.

What Cryptopia faction would you like to join?

Industrial faction. Like I said, I wanna be a Tycoon someday, and the philosophy of the industrial faction is to keep earning profits no matter what it takes. I’m not much into environmental issues or worker’s rights. I’m more into raking in the money.

What's the benefit for players who join early access?

You get to survey the land before everybody else. Once you enter Cryptopia, you will be able to see the map and each tile will show you what resources they have. By seeing Cryptopia before everybody else, you'll know which land to buy and which place to settle. You can plan ahead. Also, you get an frontier ship. If you are able to gather resources or accumulate assets in Cryptopia, you'll be able to bring a select few assets and resources from the final version of the test net all the way to the main net, giving you an instant advantage over the players who didn’t go with early access.

What lessons do you think you can take away from Cryptopia?

One thing I can take away from playing Cryptopia is that you need to make sure that you're doing something with purpose. That everything that you're doing is planned out. Because if you are running around like a headless chicken in Cryptopia, that will guarantee losses. As a community manager, it is my responsibility to guide new players and make sure the things they're gonna do in Cryptopia are optimized and planned. That way I can guarantee their success. In Cryptopia, as long as you're making the right decisions, as long as you're taking the right risks, success is guaranteed.

How are you building a community in Cryptopia as early as now?

What I'm doing is we're creating a community in our Discord server, where we have a team of moderators involved and talking to our community, and engaging them. While the game is under development, we are encouraging people to promote friendliness, and a feedback-driven community where if they're there, they are heard, and they feel listened to by the devs. To promote a society where everyone is helping each other out. If there's any information that needs to be put out there that will help other people, we share it.

How did your past experiences prepare you for the role you are in now?

I have to say that my past experiences weren’t pretty and I'm really fortunate that I did experience them. I have no regrets and I totally believe that the hardships that I've experienced really prepared me for this role. Once the game launches, my job is no easy task. It requires a lot of bravado, you know, so my 12 years of experience as a customer service agent will really help a lot.
